Mediation Advocacy

Mediation Advocacy is a specialised training programme designed to equip lawyers and professionals with the strategic, legal, and practical skills required to represent clients effectively in mediation. Unlike litigation, mediation demands a distinct advocacy approach, one that balances persuasion with collaboration, and strategy with flexibility.

This programme focuses on how advocates can add value throughout the mediation process: from preparing clients and developing negotiation strategies, to managing dynamics during mediation sessions and achieving durable settlement outcomes.

Participants will gain a deep understanding of the advocate’s role in mediation, and learn how to navigate both the legal and relational dimensions of disputes to maximise client outcomes.

This is a highly interactive programme featuring simulations, role plays, and realistic case scenarios. It is suitable for lawyers, in-house counsel, and professionals who represent parties in disputes or negotiations.

By the end of this programme, learners would be able to:

  • Develop effective mediation strategies aligned with client objectives
  • Prepare clients for mediation and manage expectations
  • Advocate persuasively while supporting constructive dialogue
  • Navigate legal, commercial, and relational considerations in mediation
  • Respond effectively to challenging dynamics and impasse
  • Contribute to the drafting of clear and enforceable settlement agreements
