On 9 September 2011, SMC launched the Singapore Mediation Charter to encourage businesses and other organisations to use mediation as a first resort in dispute resolution. The Charter is a pledge of commitment to resolve disputes in a friendly way using mediation instead of litigation.

By signing the Charter, organisations pledge to promote mediation through the following actions:

  1. Consider mediation as the first resort to resolving disputes;
  2. Insert a mediation clause in agreements and forms that the organisation is a party to, whenever appropriate;
  3. Engage its staff and members in programmes which equip them with the knowledge and skills of mediation;
  4. Display its name as a signatory to the Singapore Mediation Charter on SMC’s website;
  5. Where applicable, display SMC’s logo or a link which is hyperlinked to SMC's website.
SMC welcomes like-minded organisations to join the pledge to be part of the mediation movement.

Signing the Charter is free. It is also not legally binding; by signing the Charter, organisations are not obliged to pursue mediation if it is not an appropriate method for resolving a particular dispute.

All you have to do is submit a completed Charter form to our email at [email protected].
