As the Singapore Mediation Centre approaches its 30th anniversary in 2027, Justice Andre Maniam, Chairperson of SMC, reflects on the evolution of mediation in Singapore and SMC’s priorities for the next phase of its development. In his welcome address at the Singapore Mediation Lecture 2026, he shares SMC’s plans to strengthen mediator quality and professional development, modernise its mediator panel framework, and embrace technology to support the future of mediation.

Mr Edwin Tong SC addressed the issues and share his perspectives on the past, present and future of mediation for Singapore. He shared on Singapore’s role in growing mediation locally and globally, reviewed Singapore’s present achievements in the international dispute resolution space, and provided suggestions on how the government, bench, bar, businesses and academia can work together to harness the benefits of the Convention and mediation.
