Family Mediation Certification Programme
The Family Mediation Certification Programme (FMCP) is open to all Singapore Mediation Centre (SMC) Accredited Mediators. FMCP is a joint effort between SMC and the Family Justice Courts. This five-day intensive certification programme will take place from 13 to 16 October 2025*, with an assessment on 14 November 2025. This programme is designed to enhance a mediator’s skills in managing family disputes. Participants will acquire practical knowledge on handling family mediation cases, which includes how to manage issues such as custody of children, matrimonial asset division, the psychology of family dynamics and family violence.
To be accredited as an SMC Certified Family Mediator, participant must pass the Family Mediation Certification Assessment. The Participant will not, however, be placed on SMC’s Family Panel* nor assigned cases by SMC**.

*In the event that the programme is unable to proceed on the published dates, it shall be rescheduled to a later date and advance notice will be provided.
Those who passed the Family Mediation Certification Assessment and wish to be empaneled on the SMC’s Family Panel must sign up and meet the following requirement to be empaneled on the SMC’s Panel of Mediators:
- obtain a distinction in SMC’s Mediation Skills Assessment (MSA) and;
- successfully complete the interview stage.
**Those already on SMC’s Panel of Mediators will automatically be empaneled on the SMC’s Family Panel upon passing the Family Mediation Certification Assessment. The SMC does not guarantee the assignment of cases.

The attendance policy for the event is as follows:
Participants who wish to obtain CPD Points must comply strictly with the Attendance Policy set out in the CPD Guidelines. For this activity, participants are reminded to sign in on arrival and sign out at the conclusion of each day of the event in the manner required by the organiser. Participants must not be absent from each day of the event for more than 15 minutes. Participants may obtain Public CPD Points for each day of the event on which they comply strictly with the Attendance Policy. Participants who do not comply with the Attendance Policy on any particular day of the event will not be able to obtain CPD Points for that day. Eligibility criteria
Interested applicants must be SMC Accredited Mediator.
To be accredited as an SMC Certified Family Mediator, you must obtain a pass in the Family Mediation Certification Assessment. You will not, however, be placed on SMC’s Family Panel* nor be assigned cases by SMC**.
*Those who passed the Family Mediation Certification Assessment and wish to be on SMC’s Family Panel will need to sign up and clear the requirement to be on SMC’s Panel of Mediators as follows i. obtain a distinction in SMC’s Mediation Skills Assessment (MSA) and ii. clear the interview stage.

Exemptions
1. The following applicants are exempted from Module 1 Family Law
- Family lawyers.
- Non-family lawyers.
Note: It is highly recommended that lawyers who do not practise family law to sign-up for Module 1 Family Law.
